Feature Overview
We have introduced a redesigned patient profile that opens to a consolidated Summary (snapshot) view. Staff can now see a patient's key clinical and administrative information; demographics, diagnoses, allergies, medications, vitals, care team, and appointment history on a single page, without navigating across multiple sections to build context on a patient.
Getting Started
What do I see when I open a patient's profile?
The profile opens on the Summary tab. It shows the patient's demographics, diagnoses, allergies, medications, vitals, immunizations and injections, care team, and appointments on one page.
What's in the patient header?
The header at the top shows the patient's name, DOB and age, sex, MRN, phone, address, preferred language, PCP, and primary and secondary insurance (plan name and member ID). Click Additional patient details to open the full demographic record. The Actions menu holds patient-level actions.
How do I see a patient's tasks from the profile?
Click the Tasks tab below the patient header. It shows this patient's tasks only, and you can work them from there. Click Summary to go back to the snapshot.
I only see a few diagnoses. Where's the full list?
The Historical Diagnoses card shows the most recent diagnoses and a total count. Each one lists the ICD-10 code, description, and last documented date. Expand the card to see the full list.
How do I edit an allergy or medication?
Edit them right on the Summary tab. On the Allergies card, use the Edit action. The Medications card can also be edited from the card itself.
The Allergies card lists the allergen, reaction, and severity. The Medications card lists the name, strength, form, sig (dosage instructions), status, and prescriber.
A vital shows "--".
That value hasn't been recorded. The Vitals card shows the most recent BP, HR, WT, BMI, TEMP, and SPO₂, with a label showing how long ago they were taken (for example, "recorded 1mo ago").
It says "No immunizations on file."
The patient has no immunizations or injections on file. When there are records, the card lists the full history. Hover over an entry to see its details.
What does the Care Team card show?
Each member of the patient's care team with their role or specialty (for example, Practitioner — Cardiology, or Medical Assistant), plus the number of members.
How do I read the Appointments card?
Appointments are listed in date order with a total count. Each row shows the date, appointment type, provider, encounter ID, and a status chip that says Draft or Signed. Click a row to open that encounter's note or appointment.
What's in the referencing panel on the right?
Links that take you straight to the patient's Activity, Notes, Results, Files, Exams, Orders, Imm/Inj, Appointments, and Forms.
Where do I find the Activity tab?
In the referencing panel on the right side of the patient profile. Activity shows the patient's appointments, results, orders, files, forms, and immunizations in one feed, grouped by date with the most recent on top.
How do I find something from a specific date in Activity?
Use the search and date filter to narrow the feed to one date or a date range.
How do I open a record from Activity?
Click the item. You go to its details. For example, clicking a result opens the Results panel with that result selected.
I opened a record from Activity. How do I get back?
Click the back button. It returns you to where you left off in Activity.
How can I tell which appointments have a signed note?
In the Activity feed, appointments with a signed note are marked.
Patient updates and Capella encounter IDs
I updated the patient's information but the profile still shows the old info.
Click the refresh button on the patient profile. Changes to demographics or other patient information don't appear until you refresh.
Where do I find the Capella encounter ID for an appointment?
On the Appointments card. Each appointment shows its encounter ID, which is a Capella ID or a FHIR ID. Click the copy control next to it to copy it.
