Feature Overview

Billing detail capture on each CPT code within the encounter billing section. Providers can now specify quantity/units, add modifiers, and associate ICD-10 diagnoses directly to each CPT code, so the billing team has complete, correctly sequenced charge information to send to payors and NextGen.

Getting Started

Where do I add units, modifiers, and diagnoses for a CPT code?

In the billing section of the encounter. Each CPT code there has its own fields for quantity (units), modifiers, and linked ICD-10 diagnoses.

How do I set the number of units?

Each CPT code has a quantity field that starts at 1. Change it to the number of units you're billing.

The units field won't let me type letters.

The quantity field takes numbers only. Letters are blocked and are selected through the modifiers list.

How do I link diagnoses to a CPT code?

You can link up to 4 ICD-10 diagnoses to each CPT code. The diagnoses you can link come from the encounter's Assessment. If you add a new diagnosis while linking it in billing, it's added to the Assessment list too. Linked diagnoses show on the same line as the CPT code.

Do I have to link a diagnosis to every CPT code?

No. Linking is optional. You won't get a warning, and nothing blocks you if a CPT code has no linked diagnoses. A CPT code you've just added starts with none linked.

Can I use the same diagnosis on more than one CPT code?

Yes. One diagnosis can be linked to as many CPT codes as you need. You can't link the same diagnosis to one CPT code twice.

How do I choose which diagnosis is primary?

Reorder the linked diagnoses on the CPT code. The first one is the primary diagnosis. Each CPT code keeps its own order.

Assessment and NextGen Sync

I removed a diagnosis from the Assessment and it disappeared from my CPT code.

Removing a diagnosis from the Assessment also removes it from every CPT code it was linked to. The CPT code itself stays.

I added a diagnosis to the Assessment but it isn't on my CPT code.

Adding a diagnosis to the Assessment doesn't link it to any CPT code. Link it to each CPT code yourself in the billing section.

Does the order of my diagnoses matter for NextGen?

Yes. The order you see on each CPT code is the order sent to NextGen, with the first diagnosis as primary.
